Hygiene & Sanitation
Access to safe sanitation is a fundamental right, yet billions worldwide are deprived of it. The United Nations declared water and sanitation a basic human right in 2013 and launched World Toilet Day to raise awareness of the human cost of unsafe sanitation and promote sustainable sanitation practices. This global initiative aims to tackle the sanitation crisis and achieve universal water and sanitation access by 2030.
In India, sanitation has been a crucial priority since ancient times, with hygiene and sanitation highlighted in Vedic scriptures. However, with the increase in rural poverty and the rise of urban spaces, sanitation lost its significance. During colonial rule, sanitation was not prioritized for the subjects.
Surujmukhi’s commitment to providing access to sanitation facilities began with the construction of Individual Household Latrines (IHHL) as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan program. Over the years, the company took on several IHHL construction projects and completed them with exceptional quality and efficiency. While the program primarily focused on construction, Surujmukhi recognized that changing people’s attitudes and behaviors towards sanitation is key to achieving lasting solutions. Therefore, the company also raised awareness about health and hygiene among the communities they served.
With professionalism, dedication, and responsibility, Surujmukhi successfully completed several IHHL projects in tea garden areas under Moran SDO and Sonari SDO, while ensuring that the construction met required standards and specifications. By promoting health and hygiene awareness among the tea tribe community, Surujmukhi went beyond the construction of toilets and worked towards sustainable and lasting solutions to the sanitation crisis.
