OUR TRUST

Ranuj Dutta and Sumi Dutta Memorial Trust for Humanity and Nature

The “Ranuj Dutta and Sumi Dutta Memorial Trust for Humanity and Nature”, was established on August 1st 2021, in honour of Monuj Dutta’s (Managing Trustee) late younger sister Sumi Dutta and elder brother Ranuj Dutta. The trust functions as an affiliation of the Surujmukhi NGO.

The trust is a source of inspiration and a modest effort of Monuj Dutta to spread happiness among people by performing social deeds and efforts towards himself to preserve the memory of his deceased loved ones.

OUR TINY STEPS:

Ranuj Dutta Memorial “NANDAN KANAN”

Trust has launched an initiative called “Nandan Kanan” in honour of late Ranuj Dutta. His plan to beautify National Highway 37 by planting trees and establishing a road verge served as the inspiration for the initiative. As a result, on November 25th, 2021, he planted a seedling on the National Highway divider with late Lila Kanta Dutta’s assistance. His plan, however was never fully realized as he was killed in a car accident along with his uncle Lila Kanta Dutta on November 27 just two days later.

Hence, to make Ranju Dutta’s dream a reality on the National Highway 37’s median, between Khagarijan and Naharani Tiniali, we have planted 122 Bottle Palm saplings. Each of these individual saplings was planted by different state figure, including Mohendra Hazarika, Achurjya Borpatra Gohain, Anurag Saikia, and many others. In the future, we hope to plant 500 saplings along with installation of retro-reflector sign boards for creating awareness on road safety . This campaign aims to raise awareness of environmental conservation and traffic safety.

Project “AADOR”

A project under the memorial trust called “Aador” is a cloth distribution drive. On December 22, 2022, we formally launched the endeavor by organizing a warm cloth distribution drive for the winters. We have started a textile collection campaign as a follow up to this initiative and are requesting donations from our supporters and well-wishers. Which through this distribution effort, assist us in reaching and protecting people during the harsh winter.

The effort enable us to give over 400 people warm clothes, of which 200 were children and the remaining were adults. Under project “Aador,” we also intend to construct a “cloth bank” where we can store and maintain clothing that can then be distributed to those in need as needed. The demanding requirement of those who lack even the most basic necessities and the aspirations of those who had everything served as our primary inspirations for developing the cloth bank.

Public Marriage – “BANDHOON”

Monuj Dutta and Late Ranuj Dutta both brothers got married on the same day dated as 2nd October, 2017. On his wedding anniversary we planned a public wedding for five couples as the trust was created in remembrance of the late Ranuj Dutta to honour his memory. Some couples have already entered into a love marriage, but because they haven’t tied the knot in accordance with social expectations, it is socially unacceptable for them to actively participate in social activities. Some couples are unable to remarry and celebrate their marriage in accordance with their customs and culture because they can only make ends meets through daily wage job. We made contact with these couples through this public marriage, interacted with them, and orchestrated their marriage by bearing the full cost of their union in order for them to lead affluent lives in their society.

KUHU – Enlightening the new minds:

“Kuhu” is a term generally used in an Assamese society, which refers to the sound of chirruping of the cuckoo bird. By adopting the same concept, we are moving on to inspire many others to begin their lives from a fresh end by illuminating them through the light of education, much as this cuckoo bird’s call reminds us about the new beginning. “Kuhu” is a community library programme for the children’s overall development by reading the books assigned for their classes, general knowledge, and facets.“Kuhu” was initiated on December 12, 2022. The trust is attempting to extend its helping hands to people who are outside the scope of schooling through “Kuhu.” The trust is also preparing to launch new libraries in different villages outlining various districts in every year.
